This was an illustration I did for a competition me and a friend have recently entered.
Similar to the ‘superlambananas’ in Liverpool (http://www.gosuperlambananas.co.uk/) the city of Hull will be getting one hundred, metre high, toad sculptures to mark 25 years since the death of the poet Philip Larkin. Larkin lived in Hull for a large part of his life and the competition to design how the the various toads will look, is intended to honour his two poems, Toads and Toads Revisited.
Our ‘Typographical Toad’ has the words from the poem ‘Toads’ completely covering the surface of the sculpture. This design along with 2 others have been shortlisted and, if sponsored by local businesses, we will be given £750 to produce them so that they can placed around the city centre.
